Hi there, good to see your hippeastrum are in flower now, so maybe mine will be following along soon. I notice you dont have any of the long floppy leaves. Do you cut them off? I find mine are so untidy and rot so easily, maybe that is one of my problems?

This is a new bulb sent to me from a southern gardener. they do go dormant down south and a lot loose leaf as this one has done , hence the short leaf which will soon grow . Hippeastrum in the tropics keep their floppy leaves .I never cut the leaves as they do give protection and feed nutriment back into the bulbs. If you are having problems with rotting leaves are you overwatering, this will rot leaves. They are tough as old boots ,so try neglect which usually works.

Thanks for that Pitta, I have moved some bromeliads in amongst them to support the leaves a bit. It might be too much water as we have had an extraordinary amount of rain this dry season - who knows what the wet season will bring! I look forward to seeing that bloom!
